'Hacked' 3DS vs just buying a flashcart?

What are the end result differences between 'hacking' my 3DS or just buying a flashcart if all I want to do is play backup copies on an SD card of all the physical games that I already own?

Along the same lines, is there a reason people are hacking their 3DS besides playing backups and maybe running cheats? Find adobe flash player on my computer.

(I've soft modded Wiis, used flashcarts in the DS and DSi, jailbroken and rooted many devices so I'm not new to this. I just notice there's a ton of information to dig into in this scene so I wanted to ask a few questions before I do that to make sure it's the route I want to go.
